Coventry NUT Anti-Acadmies Action

NUT members at The Woodlands school have balloted to take action against the school's decision to apply for academy status, the lack of consultation and the likely adverse effect this will have on Teachers' pay and conditions. The NUT members at The Woodlands joined NUT and NASUWT members at Tile Hill Wood taking strike action on Friday 13th May 2011. Tile Hill Wood members took two days of strike action on Tuesday 7th & Wednesday 8th June and The Woodlands took Wednesday 8th & Thursday 9th June. After a few hours on the picket lines, members of both schools attended a rally at Massey Ferguson social club and then moved on to the city centre to lobby Councillors and distribute leaflets to the public. Deputy General Secretary, Kevin Courtney, joined members on the picket line, spoke at the rally and Council House.
A message from the Rep at Tile Hill Wood School:
Tile Hill Wood, and several others in Coventry are attempting to convert to academy status despite huge opposition from staff, parents, pupils and the community.
We have staged 5 days of strike action so far and collected 1000 signatures in only three days. The governors are not taking our views into account.
Please sign our petition calling for more consultation of staff, parents and pupils http://www.petitiononline.com/covsos/petition.html
