Stonewall have produced 'The Teachers' Report' on homphobic bullying in schools. They surveyed a sample of 2043 teachers from across the education sector. The results were shocking:

9/10 Secondary teachers and 2/5 Primary teachers have witnessed children being subjected to homophobic bullying.

The vast majority of incidents go unreported.

9/10 teachers have recived no training in how to prevent homphobic bullying.

The full report can be downloaded from www.stonewall.org.uk/educationforall

New document available:

Discrimination at work. It's so over"

The law now means you don't have to put up with grief over your sexual orientation. Not anymore.

The NUT has produced a new document "Working for a Fairer Future" giving advice from members on LGBT Equality in Education with guidance for School Representatives. Download.

Locally, we are working with the other Trade Unions to produce a joint statement on Sexual Orientation and Gender Equality. As soon as this is agreed we will send copies into schools.

If you would like further information or support on this issue please contact Nicky Downes.

Primary Teachers - There is now Local Authority training available on homophobic bullying. Training includes advice on how to challenge homophobic bullying in the classroom and free resources including books to promote positive images of LGBT.
